Roger Huerta surprised a few people recently with the decision not to renew his UFC contract, in lieu of pursuing a career in modeling and acting. Most employers, when you leave their company, will give you a watch, or even a gift certificate to Applebee’s. Bit most employers aren’t the UFC, who are giving Huerta as a going away present…a fight against former lightweight champion Sean Sherk.
Here’s MMAWeekly with more:
MMAInsider has learned from several sources close to former UFC lightweight champ Sean Sherk that a meeting with fellow Minnesotan Roger Huerta is possible for UFC 97 in Montreal, Canada.
Huerta recently elected not to sign a contract extension with the UFC, deciding instead to focus on recent opportunities in acting and modeling…A meeting with Sherk would be the last fight on Huerta’s current contract.
I don’t know how I feel aboot this. I like the fight, and it adds some oomph to a card whose rumoured main event is Anderson Silva vs. henchman #3. But I just think that if Huerta is leaving anyway, give him a scrub and put him on a preliminary part of the show.
But in a fight against Sherk, where the winner would easily be next in line for a title shot (or, behind Kenny Florian), what if Huerta wins?
I’m just sayin.
