As the newly elected chairman of the RNC, Michael Steele’s first order of business is to focus on the special election in New York’s 20th congressional district (i.e. Kirsten Gillibrand’s old seat) between Republican Assemblyman Jim Tedisco and a liberal to be named later.
If you have the extra cash, I’d highly recommend heading over to www.jimtedisco.com and making a donation, because the importance of this race cannot be overstated.
There are three main reasons:
1. This is the first big contest in the “Age of Obama,” and thanks to Gov. David “No Soul” Patterson making a circus out of the process of appointing Gillibrand and screwing things up to a fair thee well, there’s going to be A LOT of extra media attention on this race than there would normally be in upstate New York. All eyes will be on the Hudson Valley.
2. If we make a stand here, electing a true conservative to Congress – from NEW YORK of all places – and raising a shitload of coin off of the Internet in doing so, that could set the tone for the rest of 2009 and help build the momentum we need going into 2010. Not to mention, also pour some well needed kerosene on the grassroots who are already fired up from the House GOP taking a stand against the Fiscal Suicide Act, and from electing Michael Steele to head the RNC.
3. This more me just being a selfish New Yorker, but Republican’s rarely have such an opportunity here. With Gov. No Soul looking to tax everything under the sun WHILE INCREASING THE BUDGET, Congressman Tedisco could lead to Gov. Giuliani and Sen. King, which could lead to our candidates being elected in all levels of government.
The cats in the NY20 have to worry aboot the foot soldiers on the ground. The least we can do is make sure they have the money to do so.
