Random Thoughts: The House GOP vs. American Idol

The House Republican just launched a new project called “You Cut,” where you can vote, both online and on your cell phone, on spending cuts that you want to see the House enact. They give you five choices.

As a gimmick and a social media strategy, it’s brilliant. It engages voters, appeals to younger voters, and is a great way for the party to help reclaim the mantle of fiscal responsibility that we gave away during the Bush years.

Here’s my problem with it…don’t we send these people to Washington DC to make these hard decisions on their own? Never mind the fact the options they give us aren’t any I’d classify as a “hard decision.”

What next? Guest parliamentarian Simon Cowell?
