Bitches Gotta Be Primaryed

The original title for this was “I’m not Anti-Establishment, I’m Anti-Old Person Acting Like They Don’t Have To Ask For My Vote,” but I had used the actual title in an unrelated tweet, and thought it was catchier. If you are reading this right now, obviously it worked.

Last year with the Tea Party, primarying sitting senators/congressman deemed to be “RINOs” was all the rage. This year there seems to be two top targets: Sens. Richard Lugar (R-IN) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT). There’s movement within the state to oust Lugar, though most of the anti-Hatch forces come from the inside the beltway Tea Party Establishment smart set.

The criticism against primarying seems to stem around complaints of “conservative purity,” and while I am the furthest thing from a purist, I fully support primarying both of these cats and anyone else. Simple reason: all because I vote for you once doesn’t mean you’re entitled to it any time you want it.

That’s my big issue with these career politicians; they act like it’s beneath them to have to ask for my vote. Even worse than that is when they act like other leaders and citizens in the state who think they can do a better job don’t have a right to challenge them. Being my elected official is a privilege, not an entitlement.

Personally, every elected official should have a challenge in every race. It keeps them honest and ensues we have the strongest leader possible to fight for us. If we make a mistake, we have 2-6 years to find someone better.

I say primary away!
